Easy ESL Game: Just A Minute This is an ESL game that's best for upper-intermediate or advanced learners. Materials Timer List of topics - you can make these as simple or as complicated as you like Instructions Outline the rules: The goal is to speak for 1 minute on the given topic without hesitation (pausing, saying um, etc.), repetition (no repeated words), or going off topic Start with one student speaking on the topic - the other students are listening for hesitation, repetition, or going off topic. If a student thinks the speaker broke one of the rules, they will raise their hand and the teacher pauses the clock. The student points out the error and resumes talking about the topic (but they cannot repeat anything that was said before!) If you'd like to make it harder, you can restart the clock after a student identifies an error and takes over the topic.
