Video Description

Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women, but diagnosis often takes 5 to 7 years. It happens when tissue similar to the womb lining grows outside the uterus—on the ovaries, bowel, bladder, or pelvic wall. This tissue responds to hormonal changes, triggering pelvic pain, heavy periods, fatigue, and urinary or bowel symptoms—especially before menstruation. Diagnosis starts with a clinical assessment and may include transvaginal ultrasound or MRI, but laparoscopy (a keyhole surgery) is the gold standard for confirmation. Treatment includes hormonal therapies (like the contraceptive pill, progestogens, or GnRH analogues), pain relief, and in some cases, surgery to remove or destroy endometrial-like tissue. Supportive therapies and lifestyle changes can also help manage symptoms. Don’t ignore ongoing pelvic pain—getting an early diagnosis can make a big difference. 00:00 Understanding Lower Abdominal Pain in Women 00:11 Symptoms and Causes of Endometriosis
