Is building heirloom furniture worth the effort?

As a general rule, I don’t work with highly figured woods. They don’t usually align with my design aesthetic, and I’ve never been commissioned to build a piece using highly figured material, like curly maple, NOR would I typically take one on. BUT this one is different. It’s not just a random piece of furniture someone hired me to build. It’s my most important piece to date, which also turned out to be one of my most challenging and frustrating. It didn’t come across fully on-screen, but this project tested me in every way possible over the 6 weeks it took to build. There was no shortage of difficulties, mistakes, or new techniques to experiment with and I had no idea how difficult achieving the finish was going to be.
