The story of Daniel Alexander Payne Murray and the rise and fall of America's black upper class during the latter quarter of the 19th Century is the subject of a new book by Elizabeth Dowling Taylor, "The Original Black Elite: Daniel Murray and the Story of a Forgotten Era." Speaker Biography: Elizabeth Dowling Taylor has worked for more than 20 years in museum education and historical research. She was director of interpretation at Thomas Jefferson's Monticello and director of education at James Madison's Montpelier. Most recently a fellow at the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities, Taylor is now an independent scholar and lecturer. She is also the author of "A Slave in the White House."
