It's a copper wire in a PVC sheath that transmits temperature measurements from the heating mats to the thermostat. Typically, the temperature sensor is installed in a standard corrugated pipe with a plug at the end to prevent the thermistor from being flooded during tiling. The corrugated pipe simultaneously protects the temperature sensor from mechanical damage and allows for its subsequent replacement if it fails. There are two issues here. • First, replacing the temperature sensor is difficult due to the ribbed surface of the corrugated pipe; pushing it in is especially difficult. Therefore, ideally, the corrugated pipe should be replaced with a metal-plastic or cross-linked polyethylene pipe. • Second, this can cause inaccurate temperature readings from the electric underfloor heating system under the tiles. To address this, it's best to install a sealed copper tube at the end of the pipe. Copper is known to be an excellent conductor of heat! Copper tubes can be solid, glued, or welded.
