This is the second part of Sri Garikapati Narasimha Rao's profound discourse on the knotted verses in the Mahabharata, also known as "Grantha Grandhulu". As Sage Vyasa dictated the epic and Lord Vinayaka wrote it down, Vyasa would intentionally weave in complex, intricate verses. The time Vinayaka took to pause and decipher the meaning of these verses allowed Vyasa to compose hundreds more. These "knotted verses" are created through literary devices like missing syllables (luptavarnam), extra syllables (adhikavarnam), altered syllables (vikrutavarnam), and complex word separation (padachhedam). In this discourse, Sri Garikapati narrates the story of the sage Jaratkaruvu from the Adi Parvam (the first book of the Mahabharata). To fulfill the wishes of his ancestors, Jaratkaruvu, who was reluctant to marry, set two conditions: he would only marry a maiden who shared his name and who would never disobey him. He finds a bride in a Naga princess named 'Jaratkaru,' the sister of the serpent king Vasuki. She served her husband with immense devotion and righteousness. Describing her service, Vyasa used the phrase "Upayaihi Shvetakakiyaihi". Vinayaka was puzzled, as "Shvetakaki" literally means "white crow," a creature that is believed not to exist. However, the true, hidden meaning is revealed by splitting the word into 'Shva' (dog), 'ita' (deer), and 'kaki' (crow). Vyasa's intent was to describe how Jaratkaru served her husband with the watchfulness of a dog, the timidity of a deer, and the alertness of a crow. Sri Garikapati masterfully explains the profound meaning behind this verse and the subtle dharma within the story of Jaratkaruvu.
