Video Description

In Japan, Akiko weaves plants. Taught her craft by a Living National Treasure, she perpetuates an ancestral art on the island of Iriomote, in the southwest of the Japanese archipelago. Aged 78, she no longer leaves the island that often, since it provides everything she needs in terms of fibers and colors. But her fabrics still travel the world: Tokyo,  Milan,  New York. She has become one of the only women in the world to create a dialog between this ancient know-how... From the film: "Weaving the world - Japon" Direction: Isabelle Dupuy Chavanat & Jill Coulon Production: ARTURO MIO & ARTE G.E.I.E.
