Hi everyone! In this video, I explore Prague, the captivating capital of Czechia (also known as the Czech Republic), renowned as one of Europe's most enchanting cities with a rich and impressive history. This was my fourth visit to this beautiful city but my first one since 2011. This bumper vlog is an hour and fifteen minutes long, packed with history, sights and surprises. While I could never do Prague justice in such a short time, there’s so much to cover that I hope you’ll join me on this journey! Stay tuned until the end for a special surprise that only the most patient viewers will get to see! Throughout its history, Prague has been shaped by various rulers, including Bohemian kings, Holy Roman Emperors, leaders from the Habsburg Dynasty, the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and Czechoslovak presidents, along with the communist leaders who significant impacted the city's modern history. I will discuss some key elements of this fascinating history as we explore the city together. The vlog begins in the Old Town Square, where I highlight the Church of Our Lady before Týn and St. Nicholas Church. I also explain why Albert Einstein lived in Prague for a period. I then make my way to the Vltava River and Charles Bridge, discussing the Czech economy, its economic history, and the literary contributions of Franz Kafka along the way. I delve into the significant contributions of Charles IV to Prague before crossing the iconic Charles Bridge towards Prague Castle. After crossing, I take the opportunity to explore and get lost, observing various aspects of life in Prague. At the castle complex, I discuss its history, origins, and details about the castle itself, including the stunning St. Vitus Cathedral, the most important religious building in Prague. I highlight the influence of Rudolf II during the Habsburg period and witness the Changing of the Guard. After visiting the castle, I stop for coffee and a local Czech sweet treat before heading to Kampa Island. Here, I enjoy views of Prague with Charles Bridge in the background and encounter impressive art of David Černý, namely his Giant Crawling Babies. I head back to the Old Town to explore the origins of Czechoslovakia and the effects of World War I on the region. I discuss the significant role played by President Woodrow Wilson of the United States in influencing the future of the area. I also touch on Prague's experiences during World War II. Next, I make my way to the iconic Prague Astronomical Clock, sharing captivating insights into its history and intricate mechanics. Afterwards, I stop by the Jan Hus Monument, delving into the significance of the legendary defenestrations in Prague that ignited the Hussite Wars and the Thirty Years' War. I also explore Charles University and the Estates Theatre, where I discuss Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's unique contributions to Prague's cultural scene. As I stroll through the city, I admire various architectural styles, including the Municipal House, Powder Gate, and examples of cubist architecture. I discuss the period of Communist rule in Czechoslovakia, along with the Velvet Revolution and the Velvet Divorce, which led to the dissolution of Czechoslovakia and the birth of the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Finally, I indulge in a Trdelník ice cream, tempted by the sweet treat advertising. I then explore the shopping areas of New Town, Lucerna Passage, and Wenceslas Square before heading back to my accommodation for a room tour.
