A trust is essentially an agreement between two or more parties that governs how assets are managed and distributed by a third party (the trustee). A trustee manages the assets for the benefit of another person or persons. Trusts can be used for many different reasons. Some of the most common uses are to avoid probate, protect minor children from creditors, provide for your family after you die, and reduce estate taxes.
