The Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruisers (CG-47 to CG-73) are multi-mission warships designed for air defense, surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare, and strike operations. Initially commissioned in 1983, these vessels were the first surface combatants equipped with the Aegis Combat System, integrating AN/SPY-1 phased-array radar for advanced tracking and engagement of aerial threats. Originally intended as destroyer leaders, the Ticonderoga-class was built on a modified Spruance-class hull.
