The handheld gaming market was fresh and Atari was still a major competitor in the industry. After the Game Boy's success, Epyx tried to make their own handheld but struggled to financially support it. Atari finished the project as "Lynx". It was a respectable effort, but failed to meet sales targets. Note that Raiden (omitted from the list) was available officially from Telegames in 1997.
