Atticus Formatting Software Review and Critique | Can I endorse Atticus for Self-Publishing Authors?

Also, this video is kind of the Atticus team with my suggested improvements. Things I like The print trim sizes give a little key for what is accepted with KDP and IngramSpark. Lots of built in template option,s and then I can add or edit off of those if I want. Call-out boxes. Can use this for lead magnets too. Customer Service is amazing! Things I don’t like/ would like to see improve I get that the intention was for the author to have one file that can be used for eBook and print book. I would love that. The reality was that there were one line orphans in the print when I did that, so I had to manually tab down to get more text onto the next page. Which would look bonkers in an eBook that is responsive. So, because of that, I have an eBook and a print file. But when I title that book Print, it shows on the title at the top of the page. The default copyright page is wasn’t intuitive. I would have liked that to be up at the top with the copyright page. The print trim sizes, like I said, I love that there is a key to show which ones are accepted on the major platforms. LOVE THAT. What I don’t like is that I have to go into the template to set this, and then I can’t see it again unless I go here. When I do the preview and I select “Print’ I would love to see a reminder of the trim size. Lets, for lack of a better word, idiot-proof this. For the people who are doing this for the first time, or I’m triple-checking things before I export, just remind me of the trim size. This one is super picky and personal to me, so I purchased the license here. The first intro emails were: log in, download the app so you have the desktop version, and you can use it online or on desktop. Awesome. I like to use things on my desktop. Is it because I’m a curmudgeonly old lady? Most likely. I, for the life of me, could not get this app to download on my desktop. Reached out to their customer service, which to their credit got back to me right away, but no dice. I asked other authors and they said “yeah I couldn’t get that to work either so I just use the online version.” So, room for improvement. Overall - I’m happy to use it. I’m happy to have a more user-friendly DIY formatting software. I had been using Scribus, and while I liked that it was free, and that I eventually figured it out, I knew it didn’t look as good as it could have. I love that I paid a one-time fee and now every time I use it, my cost per use goes down. The things that I didn’t like or think could be improved are so so so persnickety because I’ve done this so many times and I have no doubt their team will eventually fix those. What about you?
