Attorney's Official Demand Texas Civil Rights Attorney Brandon Grable issues a formal settlement demand to McKinney, Texas on behalf of First Amendment auditor James Freeman, who was arrested for telling a police officer to "shut up." THE INCIDENT: James Freeman (over 600,000 YouTube subscribers) was recording a traffic stop in McKinney when an officer walked over and engaged him. During the interaction, Freeman told the officer to shut up. The officer—who had just thanked Freeman for "following orders"—stopped completing the traffic stop, called backup, and arrested Freeman for "interference with public duties." Freeman was held for 8 hours. No charges were ever filed. THE COERCED CONSENT: When Freeman tried to retrieve his property, McKinney PD told him they were "seeking a warrant" to download his devices but he could get his stuff back quicker if he consented.
