This was a car, that when it was first announced, I carried with me a dedicated X3 vomit bag, on the off chance I’d scroll past it on social media… Yet, now 6 months later, in typical modern BMW fashion — seeing it in person I actually love the way this car looks. It has clear influence from the 7 Series and XM, and even the new 5er. BMW calls it “monolithic,” with larger but more traditional grilles, sculpted arches, and quad pipes for the first time outside of a full M car. M Sport trim in today’s video is the pick of the bunch. There are also M Performance parts available — including 22-inch wheels, diffusers, spoilers and more — plus a long-wheelbase version in China with added rear luxuries. POWERTRAINS & VARIANTS Every car is 48V mild hybrid, plus there’s a brilliant plug-in hybrid option: * X3 20 xDrive – 208hp – £50k * X3 20d xDrive – 197hp – £51k * X3 30e xDrive PHEV – 299hp – 55 miles EV range – £57k * X3 M50 xDrive – 398hp – 580Nm – 0–60 in 4.6s – £69k All models get upgraded chassis stiffness, variable xDrive AWD, and improved traction systems — including near-actuator slip control and integrated braking. The M50 adds adaptive M suspension, sport differential, upgraded steering, brakes and a revised 8-speed auto. Unlike some rivals, every X3 here is combustion-based. No EVs yet — that’ll come with the iX3 “New Klasse”, with retro-inspired design and 800V charging. More on this in the video. INTERIOR & TECH Gone is the old 3 Series clone cabin. The G45 X3 interior is now unique — borrowing high-end cues from the 5 and 7 Series, but with its own layout, lighting, and feel. So we have the usual Massive curved display w/ OS 9, adaptive ambient lighting w/ active bar, Boost paddle & drive assist. Some nice surprises in luxury are the HUGE, Panoramic sunroof, great rear space, and optional massage seats. Materials vary per trim, and while there are some cheaper-feeling plastics (especially vs the GLC), the cabin overall feels premium and modern. Storage and tech integration are strong, and the rear seats and boot are spacious enough for most families. SO! The new X3 looks sharper, feels more premium inside, and now finally has the grunt to match its rivals. But is the X3 M50 fast enough vs the others? And is it dynamic enough to justify the M badge?
