Canary Deployments with Argo Rollout and VPC Lattice

In this session, we will walk through a modern approach to progressive delivery on AWS using polyglot microservices application deployed on Amazon EKS. The deployment is powered by Argo Rollouts for orchestrating canary releases, integrated with the AWS Gateway API Controller for VPC Lattice to manage service-to-service traffic routing via HTTPRoute. To enable dynamic traffic shifting during rollout, we use the Gateway API plugin for Argo Rollouts, which updates Gateway API resources to shift weights between stable and canary services declaratively. To validate application health before each promotion step, we integrate Argo Rollouts' AnalysisTemplate, which automatically triggers and retrieves metrics from Amazon CloudWatch Synthetics canaries. These canaries simulate end-user traffic to the application and provide real-time feedback, enabling automated rollout decisions with full observability.
