We begin with an overview of the major components required for protein synthesis, including mRNA, ribosomes, tRNAs, and aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases. The lecture then walks through each stage of translation: initiation, elongation, and termination. During initiation, you’ll learn how the small ribosomal subunit binds to the mRNA’s 5’ end (with the Shine-Dalgarno sequence in prokaryotes or the 5’ cap in eukaryotes), how the start codon (AUG) is recognized, and how the large subunit assembles to form a complete ribosome.
