About

Welcome to one of YouTube’s top destinations for compelling and in-depth military aviation history content. While we are proud to cover the full scope of Australian military aviation — including the RAAF, Army Aviation Corps, and Fleet Air Arm — much of our content covers aircraft, operations, and air power development from around the world. Our videos regularly feature American, British, Russian, Chinese, and many smaller nations. We also explore both world wars, the Cold War, Vietnam, and beyond. Our content covers aircraft development, combat tactics, air campaigns, veteran interviews, museums, and other topics revolving around air power.

Video Description

Australia's Tactical Fighter Force project to select a replacement for the RAAF’s Mirage fighter was a significant one, not only for choosing the RAAF's main fighter for the next three decades but to develop local industry participation. The search for a Mirage replacement began as early as 1970 and by November 1979 the shortlist had been reduced to two aircraft: the General Dynamics F-16 and McDonnell Douglas F-18. By late 1981 it was the F/A-18 Hornet that was chosen.
