The final surprise of the Korean War is that it does not know how to stop. When Eisenhower is elected in 1952, he implies that he will put a stop to the war, declaring: «I will go to Korea!». Ultimately, when Stalin dies, the Armistice is signed, and the border between South and North Korea is designated near the 38th parallel, where the Korean War had started in the first place. After the Armistice of 1953, the fall out from the war has a huge impact on global politics. Over succeeding decades, North Korea builds up its military capability while trying unsuccessfully to topple the government in Seoul. Today the line in Korea is still drawn; North Korea and South Korea are still grave enemies, while North Korea is now armed with nuclear weapons.
