On this edition of Super Art Hour Power Hour we got Jason Chan, a Visual Story Development Artist at Riot, in the hot seat for our first Riftbound episode. The challenge? Create a 1 of 1 trading card featuring Yasuo, where the windwall-wielding warrior tries his hand at fly fishing. For every Super Art Power Hour we need to be clear: this is not canon and this card will not exist in Riftbound. But the process isn’t all that different from how a real card would be designed by artists like Jason, just don’t expect this one as your chase card when you start ripping Riftbound packs. With that said, Jason does provide real examples from his work that have shipped, including a Riftbound card. And this challenge provides a chance for him to explain how he thinks about the whole process starting with a card’s concept, posing, and character fantasy and finishing with the actual brushstrokes that go into the creation of a Riftbound card. If you’re not familiar with the Power Hour, here’s how each episode works: We give Rioters a unique challenge to demonstrate their own creative process, talk about how they approach working on a project, flex their creativity, and share some pointers. But they only have an hour. Whatever they create is only for the purposes of this video; it won’t become part of something we actually ship.
