Creating New Side Plates

These are simple forms really, although stepped and with sharp ledges, these will be trimmed rather a lot once leather hard but this week is all about throwing the lumps of clay into flat discs, essentially. For a while I’ve been throwing and trimming the simplest of designs, flat forms with an undercut base to make them appear as if they’re floating, yet with all the recent experimentation I’ve been doing with stepped bases and the like, I thought a new round of tests were in order, and this video goes over the start of that process. Throwing a batch of side plates with 900 grams, (2 lb) of high iron stoneware clay. I’ll be trimming these next week.
