For 77 minutes, children called 911 while nearly 400 officers waited in the hallways and outside. Gonzales arrived before the shooter entered the building. He was a school district officer who had helped teach active shooter training two months earlier. Surveillance footage places him within 200 feet of the gunman when the first shots were fired. A grand jury indicted Gonzales on 29 counts of child endangerment in June 2024. The trial was moved to Corpus Christi. Judge Sid Harle presides. DA Christina Mitchell prosecutes.
