Does the Bible Get π Wrong?

The passage 1 Kings 7:23 famously identifies the value of π as 3, which is clearly incorrect. Many critics of the Bible have pointed to this clear incorrect mathematical fact as evidence that the Bible cannot be true. But hiding within the Hebrew gematria is a surreally accurate approximation of the value of π that was considerably better than anything else available at the time.
