DR. BESSEL VAN DER KOLK Bessel van der Kolk MD, a pioneer in trauma research, founded a leading center in 1984 dedicated to studying and treating traumatic stress. His groundbreaking work includes early studies on SSRIs and PTSD, neuroimaging research on trauma's impact on the brain, and linking BPD and self-injury to early childhood trauma. He played a key role in establishing the National Child Traumatic Stress Network, funding 150 centers nationwide. His focus is on developing effective interventions, including studies on EMDR, yoga, and neurofeedback to stabilize physiology and enhance executive functioning in traumatized individuals. His efforts led to the Trauma Center, now the Trauma Research Foundation, impacting treatment approaches nationwide.
