En avril 2011, les proches et les voisins de la famille Dupont de Ligonnès s'inquiètent. Cela fait maintenant plusieurs jours que les volets de la maison du couple restent clos. Le 21 avril 2011, la police découvre, lors d'une perquisition sous la terrasse du domicile, cinq cadavres ensevelis : ceux de la mère et des ses quatre enfants. Seul le corps du père, Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès, est manquant. Il devient aussitôt le principal suspect du quintuple assassinat. Pas à pas, son itinéraire est retracé. Très vite la piste du fugitif s'arrête. Son dernier signe de vie remonterait au 15 avril 2011, alors qu'il passait la nuit dans un hôtel du Var. Depuis, aucune trace de Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès.
