And within hours of that announcement, Niger Republic delivered a shocking blow—imposing new restrictions on Nigerian goods and tightening its borders in direct response to growing tensions with Abuja. This comes as Burkina Faso released the 11 Nigerian officers detained earlier this week, while strongly insisting that Nigeria’s aircraft violated Sahel airspace. Nigeria, on the other hand, claims it was merely flying to Portugal—a narrative already collapsing under scrutiny. At the same time, Nigeria’s Senate has approved President Tinubu’s request to deploy troops to Benin Republic, even though the coup there has been fully crushed.
