Obsession is a key theme in this episode - should it be strived for or is it always damaging? Jake and Damian explore Eddie’s management style as he explains that he leads with a philosophy of focusing deeply on the individual. Eddie shares how although he is deeply understanding of his players, he does not treat himself with the same empathy. Having high personal standards, and being kinder towards others than to yourself, is something we commonly hear from high performers. When watching, ask yourself: If you make a mistake, do you talk to yourself the way you’d speak to someone else? Think about why you use different language to talk to others. Make a deliberate point of stopping when you are being unkind to yourself. Reflect on if you would talk to others in the same way and then revisit the conversation with yourself.
