Cilium has long supported transparent encryption: using IPSec or Wireguard to encrypt traffic between workloads, without having to make any changes to the apps themselves or their configuration. But until recently, you couldn’t cryptographically authenticate the identity of pod workloads without injecting a proxy sidecar to perform mutual TLS on their behalf. In this talk and live demo, you’ll see how with Cilium you can now enable application-level cryptographic authentication between workloads with just two lines of YAML. No sidecars required!
