Video Description

On May 29, 1914 the RMS Empress of Ireland was left dead in the water after a horrendous impact with a coal-carrying freighter. The result was a gash in the liner's side that opened her to the Saint Lawrence River, a disaster that took the lives of more passenger than the sinking of RMS Titanic two years earlier. In this episode of 'Final Plunge' we look at the final moments of the RMS Empress of Ireland, the frantic efforts to save lives around the ship and the terrifying fate of those who were stuck inside the ship as it rolled. 3D animations by: Jack Gibson Special thanks is owed to Liam Sharpe whose animation of the Empress of Ireland sinking in real time was used to supplement the animations made by Jack Gibson. You can watch Liam's harrowing portrayal of the Empress' final moments on his channel here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I74YKZgQO0M Many of the accounts and stories from this video came from 'Fourteen Minutes' by James Croall, a harrowing account of the ship's sinking which we highly recommend!
