We had heard so many negative reviews and horror stories from travellers who’d been to Phnom Penh, but our experience was nothing short of incredible. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by some of the friendliest locals we’ve ever met anywhere in the world with warm smiles, kind conversations, and genuine hospitality that made us instantly fall in love with Cambodia. We started our day with a stroll along the Mekong River Walk, taking in the views and local life, before heading to the Royal Palace of Phnom Penh, one of the most beautiful landmarks in Cambodia. For lunch, we stopped at a traditional Cambodian restaurant to try some authentic Khmer food, which was absolutely delicious! In the afternoon, we visited the Tuol Sleng Museum (S21 Prison) a sombre and emotional experience that reminded us of Cambodia’s heart breaking past. To lighten the mood, we went on a relaxing Mekong River sunset cruise, followed by exploring the Phnom Penh night market and indulging in some mouth-watering Cambodian street food. We ended the day at a rooftop bar watching the sunset over Phnom Penh’s skyline, sipping on cold drinks and taking in the beautiful views. This was our first trip to Phnom Penh, and honestly, it felt like the start of something special. We didn’t expect Cambodia’s capital to be this vibrant, friendly, and full of life. From its rich history to its modern energy, Phnom Penh, Cambodia completely changed our perspective.
