If this joint isn’t moving the way it should, everything from headaches, dizziness, neck pain, poor posture, and even nerve irritation can show up. Today, I’m showing you 3 simple, precise techniques you can do at home to help restore proper motion at C1 and unlock better healing. Why C1 (The Atlas) Matters So Much C1 sits right at the base of your skull and surrounds the brainstem — the most sensitive real estate in your entire spine. When the atlas shifts or stiffens, it can affect: Upper-cervical nerves (C1–C3) -Muscle tone through the suboccipital region -Blood flow and proprioception -Balance, eye movement patterns, and posture reflexes This joint is the “keystone” of neck mechanics. If it moves poorly, the rest of the spine ends up compensating. Atlas Anatomy & Motion You Should Know C1 is shaped like a ring with two lateral masses.
