In this video, I take a deeper look at fruit through a historical and biological lens rather than just asking whether it “fits” on a carnivore diet. We explore how fruit was once highly seasonal, available only for short windows of the year, and very different from what we see today. I discuss how ancestral fruits were smaller, less sweet, and far more fibrous, while modern agricultural breeding has dramatically increased sugar content, size, and year-round availability. We also examine how global transportation has removed natural scarcity—allowing fruit to be consumed constantly instead of occasionally—and how today’s produce often comes with pesticide exposure and storage practices that our ancestors never encountered. The goal of the video is to help viewers understand that modern fruit is not the same food our ancestors experienced, and why context, seasonality, and food environment matter when deciding if it belongs at all.
