They’re incredibly easy to make, don’t require cake mix, and come together with simple pantry ingredients, a little green food coloring, and a festive red heart candy on top. Perfect for Christmas parties, cookie exchanges, or baking with kids! ⸻ Ingredients Dry Ingredients • 2½ cups all-purpose flour (300 g) • 2½ cups powdered sugar, divided (300 g total) • 2 cups (240 g) for dough • ½ cup (60 g) for rolling • 1 tablespoon baking powder (12 g) • ½ teaspoon salt (3 g) • ½ cup cornstarch (60 g) Wet Ingredients • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened (113 g) • 2 large eggs • 1½ teaspoons vanilla extract (7.5 ml) • 1½ teaspoons almond extract (7.5 ml) Decor • Green gel food coloring (to desired color) • Red heart-shaped sprinkles or candies ⸻ Instructions 1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. 2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, 2 cups (240 g) of powdered sugar, baking powder, and salt. 3. Cut the butter into tablespoon-sized pieces and drop them into the flour mixture. 4. Add the eggs, vanilla extract, and almond extract. 5. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed until well combined. 6. Add 2 drops of green gel food coloring and beat until fully incorporated, adjusting color as desired. Make sure there are no white streaks in the dough. 7. In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and the remaining ½ cup (60 g) of powdered sugar. 8. Scoop the dough into 1½ tablespoon (about 22–23 ml) portions. Roll into balls, then roll generously in the cornstarch mixture. 9. Place dough balls 3 inches (7.5 cm) apart on the prepared baking sheets and gently press down the tops. 10. Bake for 12 minutes, or until the cookies begin to crinkle and are lightly browned on the bottoms and edges. 11. Remove from the oven and immediately press a red heart sprinkle or candy into the center of each cookie. 12. Transfer to a wire rack and allow to cool completely. Storage: Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
