Learning how to gain stage properly can make a huge difference to the quality of your mix. These 7 gain staging mistakes could be ruining your mixes, so in this gain staging tutorial I show you how to instantly correct them all, and it will show you how to get a perfect mixdown. Proper gain staging doesn’t have to involve a VU meter (but it can help), as most DAWs can measure peak and average volumes nowadays. But what is gain staging, and is gain staging necessary? It’s simply making sure the volume of your signal is measured and adjusted throughout your entire mixing chain (AKA gain structure) to make sure you’re getting the best results from your plugins and - ultimately - your final mix and master.
