This is Garmin’s answer to the Apple Watch Ultra and after wearing it for the past two weeks, let me tell you, this is either the best Garmin watch of all time, or the worst Garmin watch of all time. There is just so much that’s different about this watch and it really depends on what you value. So in this video, I’ll share all my observations, do a deep dive into the accuracy, test the speakers and microphone, show the new interface with all the new features, and ultimately, decide who should actually buy the Garmin Venu X1. Additional video notes: I’ll start with the positives and then we’ll talk negatives. - light thanks to the fiber reinforced polymer body with titanium caseback - thin, just 8mm thick case but somehow still a claimed 8 day battery life - which I found to be conservative. Battery lasted from noon on Friday until 6AM on Sunday - 8.75 days - Display is MASSIVE 2” scratch resistant sapphire - easy to read large display while moving - Display is AMOLED and gets very bright with optional always-on mode - Much like the Epix, we get a flashlight, also useful for strobe while running - microphone and speaker for making phone calls ACCURACY - HR Elevate Gen 5 optical sensor cluster, just like we see on the other top of the line watches from Garmin GPS This lacks dual band GPS SWIM Perfect lap tracking for me Now has lots of swim workout options like critical swim speed, etc. SLEEP Seems a bit optimistic ALTITUDE Questionable - when in Dublin, after a long flight (maybe that messed it up) it said I was 72 feet below sea level Once I got home, it seems to be dead on. COMPASS FEATURES - built in mapping, offline maps, navigation, backtrack, - nap detection, stress tracking, - morning report (I always love this) - Evening red shift - on-wrist texting for android - 32GB storage for maps, offline music, etc - can still do offline spotify Full offline mapping, like Fenix 8 (fully routable) Voice commands - ask garmin to start a run? Voice notes Training readiness Training status VO2 Max Altitude acclimation Endurance score Hill score Load a race, it’ll predict time, countdown, and help plan for your race Garmin share (send course between two watches next to each other) New sport profiles (like 100 now+ now) Lots of sensor support, like ebike, foot pod, extended display, HR, golf club support Jet lag advisor Garmin Pay (a bit limited in participating banks) Heat acclimation Flashlight when running (strobe style) Focus modes ClimbPro - figures out ascents and descents for mapped routes - handy for showing how much climb you have ahead This has golf! Honestly, a huge feature. I can see a lot of people buying this watch to use the golf features. Also pairs with rangefinders and club sensors for even more data Nice thin watch means your wrist won’t smash into the watch, and sleeves or gloves can easily be worn without interference from the watch MISSING: No ECG No dual-band GPS Impact load Running economy Running tolerance No high speed waterproofing or diving UI TOUR MICROPHONE TEST SPEAKER TEST
