This time I decided to make a drawing on a knife. I have been a fan of science fiction since childhood and often use science fiction plots in my works. And this time I chose the theme for engraving the Legendary space monster "Alien". On one side of the knife was drawn "Alien", and on the other side - the insidious and creepy "Facehugger". Which wraps its tail around the metal part of the knife handle (bolster). Let me tell you about the heroes of my work. The fantastic creature Alien (Xenomorph) first appeared on screens in the cult film by Ridley Scott "Alien" (1979). It became the embodiment of ancient horror - ruthless, inhuman and terrifyingly real. The concept and design of the monster was created by the Swiss artist H. R. Giger, who combined organic and mechanical forms into a single "biomechanical" body. This style later became the hallmark of the entire franchise. Aliens have a unique life cycle, which includes several forms: Egg - a passive stage that activates when a victim approaches. Facehugger - an arachnid parasite that grabs the victim's face and implants an embryo. Chestburster - a creature that bursts from the chest of its host. Mature Alien (Drone, Warrior, Queen) - a deadly creature with inhuman speed, strength and intelligence. The animal takes part of the DNA of its host, which makes each subspecies unique (for example, in the film Alien 3, the alien appeared from a dog and acquired the properties of a predatory beast). Despite its apparent savagery, the Alien is not just a monster. It acts with cold calculation, is able to set up ambushes, disable security systems, adapt to the environment. Queen is a highly intelligent alpha predator who controls a hive of aliens like an insect (ants, wasps). The Alien symbolizes the unconscious fears of man: Fear of violence and physical invasion. Loss of control over the body. Motherhood and birth, transformed into something terrifying. Body shapes similar to human organs (skull, spine, teeth) reinforce the feeling that the monster is a twisted reflection of ourselves. Since its debut, the Alien has become: The star of more than eight films (including crossovers with Predator), The subject of video games, comics, novels, and fan interpretations, One of the most recognizable and influential monsters in cinema history. The Alien is depicted in hyperrealistic tattoos, engravings, 3D sculptures, and digital illustrations. His body is an ideal object for graphic analysis: rhythmic repetitions, textures, contrasts between smooth and spiky elements, an almost sculptural anatomy. I used a new knife bought online as a base for the design. Before I started to implement my idea, I painted the knife to apply the design. I drew the design on the knife. Using a needle and an awl, I scratched the design into the paint. Next, I started multi-layer electrochemical etching of the metal using a power supply. Step by step, layer by layer, my knife began to acquire the look I needed. After finishing the etching, I used electrolyte to darken the design and give it some shadows and visual volume. It was a difficult but interesting project. With patience and perseverance, using a simple technology, sitting at home, I created a design with volume on the knife. With this easy salt etching technique, you can get a unique product with any image on metal. For me, this is an incredible result, which I am very pleased with.
