The U.S. government is now one month into its federal shutdown, which has impacted everything from critical food assistance to air travel. Democrats and Republicans are still at an impasse in negotiations to get things back on track. Meanwhile, new demands from President Donald Trump could upend them further. Candice Cole reports. Political watchers say the Alberta government's use of the notwithstanding clause this week to bring the teachers' strike to an end could become an inflection point for Premier Danielle Smith and the UCP.
