Various shots of US troops driving a partly-damaged miniature landrover STORYLINE: US soldiers on Monday discovered the palace in which Saddam Hussein's eldest son Udai has lived. His storehouse has one million US dollars worth of fine wines, liquors and heroin. His house has Cuban cigars, cases of champagne and downloaded pictures of naked women. Nearby is a personal zoo with lions, cheetahs and a bear. While most Iraqis bent under the brunt of UN sanctions that drove their country into poverty, the tour through his bombed house showed that Udai lived a life of fast cars and expensive liquor. Udai Hussein's compound is in a back corner of the sprawling Presidential Palace compound, a small city that boasts six-lane avenues, traffic lights and a hospital. US soldiers who now occupy the grounds say they believe Udai's portion included a house, a warehouse, a gym, a harem and a zoo. Scattered among the debris from a bomb that tore through it and exploded in a bunker below lay stationery with Udai's name in gold lettering, photographs of Udai and dozens of copies of Udai's doctoral dissertation. The house also indicated Udai's sybaritic side that Iraqi dissenters had told of for decades: a hunger for alcohol, drugs and lots and lots of women. There were bottles of Jose Cuervo 1800 tequila, Danska vodka and Delamain cognac, as well as Chimay, Corona and Miller Genuine Draft beers. US soldiers arrived too late to stop looters from making off with a number of expensive imported cars in the underground car-park. But some cars remained because they had been damaged, or because the looters had been unable to start them.
