He murdered at least ten people, including his grandparents, mother, and several young women in Santa Cruz, California, during the early 1970s. Kemper's crimes were marked by extreme violence, including necrophilia and dismemberment. Standing at 6'9" and with a high IQ, he was articulate and manipulative, often charming his victims. He killed his grandparents at 15, leading to his institutionalization, but was released at 21. His later murders targeted female hitchhikers before culminating in the killing of his mother and her friend in 1973. Kemper turned himself in, was convicted of eight counts of first-degree murder, and is serving life in prison.
