Video Description

JavaScript was first created by Brendan Eich in just 10 days in May 1995. At the time, Eich was working at Netscape Communications Corporation, which was developing the Netscape Navigator web browser. JavaScript was originally called Mocha, then renamed to LiveScript, and eventually settled on JavaScript due to the popularity of Java. The initial idea behind JavaScript was to create a simple scripting language for web designers to add interactivity to their web pages. However, JavaScript quickly grew in popularity as developers realized its potential for building more complex web applications. In 1996, Microsoft introduced JScript, a compatible version of JavaScript for its Internet Explorer browser. This led to the standardization of JavaScript by the European Computer Manufacturers Association (ECMA), resulting in the first version of the ECMAScript standard in 1997. Since then, JavaScript has continued to evolve, with new features and capabilities being added in subsequent versions of the ECMAScript standard. Today, JavaScript is one of the most widely used programming languages in the world, powering web applications, server-side applications, and even mobile and desktop applications through technologies like Node.js and Electron.
