The 2nd generation devices are all plastic while the 3rd generation Echo Dot devices have a fabric outer shell. To reset the Echo Dot 2nd generation you need to do the following: 1. Make sure the device is on. 2. With the device on hold down on the microphone button and the volume down button for 20-30 seconds until the device displays a yellow/orange flashing ring. 3. With the device in reset mode you can let your finger off the buttons. Give the device 1-2 minutes to complete the reset sequence and it will be then reset to factory default settings and can be setup again on a new account.
