Florian Gadsby is a ceramicist working with stoneware and porcelain in North London — here you'll find videos that show process, how pottery is thrown and finished and finally glazed and kiln fired. The videos here show the processes behind his work, such as the throwing and trimming of tableware and more sculptural pieces. For more regular posts, including daily photographs and videos, make sure to follow over on my Instagram: (www.instagram.com/floriangadsby). I restock my online shop around 3/4 times a year, with about 300-400 pieces a time, if you'd like to receive a newsletter about when these go live you can sign up to my newsletter on my website, (https://www.floriangadsby.com/newsletter). I also leave the shop page online, even though it appears as sold out, it usually sells out in a few minutes time, just to give you an idea of what's available and the price range, (https://www.floriangadsby.com/shop). Video Description
I've wanted to remake this guide for a while now. The elusive tap centring, (yes I'm writing 'centring' & 'centering' to bit both US/UK searches), is a tricky process to learn, but there is simple logic behind it, and in this video I hope to teach the process to the best of my abilities. From how to tap, where to strike, what's a good wheel speed and how this technique can increase the efficiency in your studio. The old version of this video has a lacklustre narration and I think the visuals are improved massively, to hopefully really clearly demonstrate how I tap centre pots, and most importantly, teach myself to SEE when the pots are centred. Thanks for watching — I hope this helps! 📖 • ORDER MY BOOK: https://geni.us/bymyhands • How to wedge clay video: https://youtu.be/hYdLGLztT-Q • How to center clay: https://youtu.be/-YCGK33c0xs • How to pull up the walls of clay: https://youtu.be/VM8SJZ4lNRY • How to open up and form the base: https://youtu.be/HF5IAJ0x2g0 • How to lift pots off the wheel: https://youtu.be/05CsVxlULo0 • How to throw a bowl: https://youtu.be/xPgPKRuFia4 Timecodes: 0:00 - Introduction 0:27 - What is tap centring & why is it useful? 2:10 - The basics... 3:05 - LINES on the wheel-head 4:43 - The problem with learning this skill as a beginner... 6:33 - WHERE I tap the pots 7:54 - How to use a finger/thumb as a guide 9:01 - A better use for your spare hand... 11:11 - What wheel speed should I use? 12:22 - The trouble with overcomplicated this technique 14:50 - A more advanced technique, centring by eye, the ultimate goal. 17:23 - Clean up • Find out much more via the link below! https://linktr.ee/floriangadsby • Get in touch here: https://www.floriangadsby.com/contact Sign up to my newsletter here: https://www.floriangadsby.com/newsletter
