I'm taking the lessons from 2 years ago when I attempted this project for a different building and armed with a mix of grit and newfound knowledge, I'm set to beat the heat on a budget. The biggest challenge to living at Dustups Ranch isn't just the extreme daytime temperatures—it's trying to sleep in 90°F indoor temperatures at night. Traditional AC units drain precious power, and when you're off-grid, batteries are the real expense. Each one costs $180, and you need MANY of them. This geothermal system sends hot air underground where the earth naturally cools it, then brings it back inside 15 degrees cooler. Could this simple approach change everything about how we live in extreme environments? What happens when we push 90° air underground and get 75° air back using just 35 watts of electricity? So in this video, I dig trenches with "Diggy Smalls" (my $2,000 mini excavator), repurpose $45 shipping crates, and test whether this crazy idea actually works.
