Aloha, beautiful people! 🌈 We are Alexus and Michi, your favorite fourth-year PhD students at University of Hawai'i at Mānoa and an international (American German) lesbian couple. Alexus is a fourth year PhD student studying Biological Oceanography (Marine Ecology, Deep-sea Biology) and Michi is a fifth year PhD student studying Second Language Studies (Applied Linguistics, Language Teaching). In this 2024 PhD in Hawaii Vlog, Michi and Alexus take you on a day in their life as an LGBTQ PhD Couple in Honolulu, Hawaii after the winter holiday season. Today, Michi has a very special day in mind as she is planning to surprise Alexus with an engagement proposal during their beach date night. Before the big surprise proposal, Michi and Alexus start their days with some unpacking from their holidays and getting back into the swing of things. Then, the two go to UH Mānoa campus for their Spanish class and to do some PhD related work. After some PhD work on campus, the two head home, cook some food, and get ready for their sunset beach date…where Michi has something very special planned for them. On the beach, just after sunset, Michi surprises Alexus with a beautiful engagement ring (that she has had for a while), proposes back to her girlfriend, and the two enjoy this very special moment.
