So. I've switched to a flip phone. Somewhere between the switch to the "endless scroll" (who remembers "you're all caught up!" on Instagram! SOBS), constant dopamine hits, social media burnout, increased anxiety etc...I started to CRAVE digital minimalism, dopamine detoxing, and a break from smartphone addiction because it IS an ADDICTION. I had my social media detox in August which I shared in the AUGUST monthly vlog and this has kind-of been on my mind ever since then but thanks to my therapist and a bunch of other content creators who recently swapped to dumb phones I've found the courage! Already my mental health has improved, my mood is much better and I have so much more clarity...I can like...see things better? It's like I was spending a lot of my time not fully in the moment...sort-of stuck looping on something I'd scrolled past that I didn't even want to see...something I WAS FED by the algorithms. I am NOT anti-tech or anti-social media I just no longer trust myself with a smartphone. I keep reaching for it (so much more since the kids started school) I DON'T want to be a bad role model for my kids I DON'T want to feel like I missed lots of this beautiful time with my kids...enter that HOOK quote here when the mam is like YOU ARE MISSING IT!!!!! I obviously still love the internet and what it’s given me, but I think our/MY relationship with it needs a reset. This flip phone thing is an experiment...I want to be more productive, more creative, I want to focus my online time more on YouTube (short form content can be great in small bursts so I WILL be allowing myself a small burst of it once a day!). I basically want to reduce my screen time by 80% and just BE, more often. I want to take in less random contextless chunks of info. I want to READ MORE BOOKS. And all this requires drastic action.
