11/5/05 -- Joan Didion has been a novelist, essayist, and screenwriter for more than three decades. She was recently honored with the Gold Medal for Belles Lettres from the American Academy of Arts and Letters among other major awards. She is a frequent contributor to The New York Times Book Review and The New Yorker. Her next book The Year of Magical Thinking is a memoir of grief.
