Video Description

In this video we will compare the maximum speeds of the three primary heavy bombers in Europe. The Avro Lancaster, Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, and the Consolidated B-24 Liberator. The Lancaster was the newest design with by far the largest engines. Plus they were liquid cooled V-12s, much more streamlined than the U.S. air cooled radials. Then again, the US planes had turbochargers. Let's run the numbers from primary source material and compare. The Lancaster's Merlins have the least displacement, but are liquid cooled and are the heaviest of the bunch.
