Trump, who became the first American leader in 60 years to deploy the National Guard on United States soil without a request for aid from a state governor, called up 2,000 soldiers, with about 300 so far deployed to America’s second-largest city in a show of executive might. Gavin Newsom has said that President Trump’s decision to send in the National Guard to tackle protests “will allow him to go into any state and do the same thing”. The California governor told the YouTuber Brian Tyler Cohen that “the people’s lives are at risk” and reiterated his threat to challenge the deployment in court.
