Master mechanic and Engineer Steve Coppock Shows us His French Ford Flathead with many differences from the various series produced in the USA from 1932 through 1953. 🇫🇷 French Ford Flathead (Simca / Ford SAF): - After WWII, Ford France (later Simca) took over manufacturing. - The French military and police used the engine in Matford and Simca-built vehicles, especially military trucks like the Simca SUMB. - Production continued into the early 1990s—long after the U.S. stopped. - Thicker blocks and internal bracing: Ideal for military duty and long service life. - "Super" Flathead variants: Simca occasionally offered slightly updated versions with better metallurgy. - Parts interchangeability: Mostly compatible with U.S. parts, though some accessories and castings differ. - Durability: The later French castings are known to be tougher. - Availability: Surplus engines from French military stock became popular in the U.S. in the '90s–2000s. - Hot rod potential: Builders like them because they can handle more stress (boost, heat, RPM) with fewer mods.
