French President Emmanuel Macron has called for the repatriation of French citizens who were detained by Israeli forces when the Gaza-bound aid boat 'The Madleen' was boarded on international waters. Macron, in an address on Monday, said France "stands by all its citizens when they are in danger" and has reiterated calls for a ceasefire and the lifting of the "disgraceful" humanitarian blockade in Gaza. The United Nations says that while limited amounts of aid has been allowed to enter Gaza since May 19, reduced aid and heightened levels of desperation has resulted in supplies being looted before reaching its destinations. UN's Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq has reported that the Gaza Strip has reached "unprecedented levels of despair", with more than two million people facing famine conditions.
