Arriving in cinemas just 6 months after Reloaded this was a massive event at the time. It felt completely unprecedented and I remember leaving reloaded counting down the days. That arrived on VHS and DVD just one month before it and I was so hyped for the final entry. Like final final final.mp4 may need a final final draft of the final film later. But they very much made this a world wide event. It was even released around the globe at the exact time. It hit cinemas at 14:00 GMT around the world and thus everyone got their first viewing at the same time. If youre as old as me and from the UK then you might remember movies had staggered releases. So things would often release in America sometimes years before they hit the UK. You’d often hear about how good films were and couldnt just pirate bay the film right away. You had to either get a flight or wait until it released over here. So this was a groundbreaking thing even though its something we expect as a standard today. A third movie in a trilogy back in 2003 was a major cultural event but I actually feel the close release ruined it slightly. Lots of films were doing this at the time, most notably the lord of the rings trilogy. However it left the creative team with no time to reflect and also the pressure of making two movies instead of one.
